Many issues have been introduced and discussed in relation to race, tradition and diversity, and their impact on children and contemporary society. In the attached journal I possess recorded a few of the subjects we discussed in group classes such as: British Empire Legacy, Similar Opportunities, Content Code Culture, Ethnic Hispanics, Sex Education, Legislations, and the Traveller Community. I have included as well other interesting issues that I ran across and regarded as relevant to this module. With regards to this reflective statement around the module and journal, Let me focus further more on and go over the education of children in the traveler community, and inequalities in the representation of race and cultures in the media.

The right to education is known as a fundamental human being right. Every person, irrespective of competition, gender, nationality, ethnicity or social origins, religion, grow older or incapacity, is eligible for an education with no discrimination of any kind (UDHR, 1948). Yet , discrimination is present in all walks of life, whether evident or not really, including in education. Brown (1998: x) comments that, " children are aware incredibly young that colour, vocabulary, gender and physical capability are associated with power and privilege". These types of factors possess a major part to play in undermining their very own development. Darkish (1998) goes on to argue that interpersonal inequalities happen to be deeply grounded in United kingdom history, which has been created and maintained simply by vested interests over centuries. Social inequality " improvements the very character of” a kid (Mongomery ou al, the year 2003: 71). That determines how a child views itself go with the contemporary society and in the end the future.

Opportunities differ depending on contest, gender and socio-economic history. Ermisch ainsi que al, offered in Davis (2006: 34) note that, " education has turned into a key part of intervention in disadvantaged little one's lives, and low-income youngsters are seen as especially at risk of ‘failing' at school”. Policies including ‘Every Child Matters' (ECM, 2008) usually are meant to change the condition to make a better future, including those of children in the passenger community.

The gypsy and traveller community are a community group, which can be greatly outnumbered by non-travellers and affected by racism (see Journal access pages 49, 57 & 65). The Roma, who have form a significant part of the traveler community, have the legal status of a race. The period we had on 14/11/08 about travellers was very interesting and informative. I had been not really aware about this population group and their culture and had very little knowledge of these people. In fact , I had some adverse views of these and thought of them as I had observed in the movies. I had been surprised, to say the least, to find out more of the existence and presence as I had by no means come across them in my life or knew of anybody that had. This kind of learning was interesting and informative for me personally.

To eliminate prejudice against travellers, it is important to understand all their history and life-style. Travellers have been completely dealing with misguided beliefs for a long time; they have been targeted by the majority and get discriminated against. For example , these were barred in the Royal Windsor Horse Present which was available to the public. A large number of were advised that " your kind are not welcome" here (Bowcott, 2008). The traveller community have their own unique life style, and education authorities make an effort to work with these to help youngsters to receive an education with no compromising all their way of life, all their culture. The Equality and Human Privileges Commission (2007) has also accepted that Gypsy Travellers face public hatred, institutional elegance and wide-spread ignorance of the needs in society. This is certainly despite the Competition Relations Modification Act 2k, which has made all these items illegal.

The elder era of vacationers have little or no or no education. Although passenger children today are encouraged to get an education and appearance to do well at primary education, but they appear to struggle...
